San Diego Eyelid Surgery in La Jolla
As we age, skin becomes less elastic, muscles become looser, and gravity takes effect on skin tissue. Puffy or baggy areas around the eyelid are common problems that can make you look tired or older than you are.
If you have excess skin around your eyelids, or pockets of fat that are contributing to puffiness, the most effective way to correct these issues is through cosmetic eyelid surgery. The La Jolla Institute of Plastic Surgery has been helping patients in the San Diego area achieve exceptional results with eyelid surgery for over a decade.

What’s Involved in Eyelid Surgery?
Getting eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) involves re-shaping eyelids into the desired appearance by removing excess skin and fat, and can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids. For some patients, loose skin around the eyelids can even diminish your vision. People consider eyelid surgery for a wide range of reasons, including the following:
- Excess fat or skin in the upper eyelids, which makes the area appear puffy and may cause the skin to sag
- Bags or dark circles beneath the eyes
- Wrinkles or excess skin around the eyelid area
- Horizontal wrinkles beneath the eyes
- Crow's feet wrinkles at the corners of the eyes
- Genetic factors that cause eyelid puffiness, excess skin, or other aesthetic issues
A typical eyelid lift procedure has two parts: an initial consultation, in which you'll visit our Phoenix office to discuss what you want the surgery to achieve, and the surgery itself. The entire procedure takes approximately two to three hours, depending on whether this treatment is performed in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. Some patients opt to have additional procedures carried out at the same time for a complete makeover. For example, some may have a facelift, rhinoplasty (nose surgery), or Botox injections to firm up fine lines and wrinkles.
